Is carpooling what happens when the family vehicle wants to go for a swim? No! It's a very important, environmentally friendly
method of travelling, especially to school. Does your journey to school take ages? It probably does because most parents only take their children to school. As a result, there are twice as many cars on the road during
the "school rush" than there needs to be. Carpooling involves two schoolmates or classmates who live very close to each other only taking one car - one day your parents offer the lift and the next day your
schoolmate's parents offer.
What are the advantages of carpooling?
Firstly, the number of cars on the road is reduced, causing less pollution and damage to the environment.
Secondly, you get to know someone else who lives near to you.
Thirdly, your parents get the extra time to themselves.
See if you can organise carpooling within your class, year or school. Perhaps you could talk to a
teacher or even your head to see how they might organise a carpool. If they're not willing, see if your parents would like to organise a carpool themselves.
